At NEWS Point Academy, students don’t have to choose between excellence in academics and elite athletic development. They get both in a small-school environment, completely tuition-free, where every student is known by name. Whether your student is an athlete, a scholar, or still figuring out what they want, we have a place for them.

Frequently Asked Questions
NEWS Point Academy is open to all Arizona families, regardless of where you live. There are no entrance exams, auditions, or tryouts. No discrimination on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, income, disability, English proficiency, or athletic ability.
Any student entering 9th or 10th grade in 2026–27, regardless of where they live in Arizona. We’re open to all families seeking a high-quality, tuition-free high school education.
Yes! As a public charter school, there is zero tuition, no application fees, and no enrollment deposits. Sports fees are capped at $250 per year, and Arizona tax credits may cover that entirely. The education is always free.
No. NEWS Point Academy is an in-person, brick-and-mortar high school. Students come to campus every day. Community, mentorship, and culture happen in person, and that’s intentional.
Proof of Residency (required). One document showing your name and current Arizona address. Any of the following work: Arizona driver’s license or state ID, utility bill, residential lease or rental agreement, bank or credit card statement, mortgage documents or property tax bill, W-2 or payroll documentation, or documentation from a state, tribal, or federal government agency.
Proof of Age and Identity (requested at enrollment, but won’t delay your start). A government-issued birth certificate is ideal. A passport, hospital birth certificate, Social Security number application, previous school registration records, or a letter from an authorized custody agency also work. If you don’t have it on day one, you have 30 days from enrollment to submit it.
Immunization Records (required for attendance, not enrollment). Arizona law requires immunizations for all students in public schools. If your student has a qualifying medical condition or personal belief exemption, a waiver can be submitted before the first day of school.
Experiencing housing instability? You may not be required to provide proof of residency at enrollment. Please reach out, and we’ll work with you. No family should face a barrier to a great education.
We serve students with disabilities and provide Exceptional Student Services in compliance with all federal and state requirements, including Child Find and FAPE. Please connect with our team so we can talk through your student’s specific needs.
Not at all. Athletics are available and excellent, but never required. Students thrive here through IB academics, leadership opportunities, and a tight-knit school culture, whether or not they ever step on a field.
We review every situation on a case-by-case basis, considering all facts and circumstances. We encourage you to contact us directly — we’d rather have that conversation than have your family walk away without exploring options.
NEWS Point is a premier partner of Arizona Athletic Grounds, but we operate as an independent public charter school with our own leadership and governance. The partnership gives students access to world-class facilities, but our academic mission and culture are entirely our own.
